The transfer was hit by various controversies. Apparently, Neymar’s representatives had paid the fee to the club directly, after La Liga had refused to receive the payment.
This was controversial because according to the rules, the buyout clause is deposited with La Liga in order to release the player from his contract, and the league then passes the money to the selling club. However, La Liga rejected the payment, citing a violation of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules by PSG.
Neymar had a brilliant debut in Paris as he had netted 26 goals in 29 appearances for the club across competitions, before suffering an injury. However, because of his injury, he missed the second leg of the Round of 16 clash against Real Madrid which PSG lost 5-2 on aggregate.
Although, Neymar has been instrumental for PSG this season as well, the sudden rise of teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe has sort of affected Neymar’s superstar status in PSG.
The Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo has reported that Neymar wants to move back to his former club in Spain and in fact, he has already offered himself to Barcelona and a potential deal might be on the cards in the January transfer window next year.
As per the report, Neymar, who shares a great rapport with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic among others, is desperate to reunite with his friends.
