Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose has been withdrawn from England's squad ahead of their Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain this weekend due to injury, the English Football Association said on Thursday.

The FA described Rose's injury as "minor" and said that he would return to Tottenham immediately. Fellow left back Luke Shaw also withdrew from Gareth Southgate's squad on Monday due to an unspecified injury.

Rose has made six appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham this season, starting five times. He last featured in the 1-0 victory over Cardiff City last weekend, where he was substituted late in the contest.

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy will also miss the matches due to injury.

England, who are second in Nations League A Group 4, face third-placed Croatia in Rijeka on Friday before taking on leaders Spain in Seville on Monday.
