'Captain Cool' in Kashmir: Dhoni to cheer players at Chinar Cricket Premium League finale

Former Team India captain and Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) Mahendra Singh Dhoni will sent the temperatures in the cold November soaring when he will take to ground as a chief guest at the Grand Finale of Indian Army sponsored Chinar Cricket Premium League on Sunday.

Look who has come calling to cheer for the cricketers of the paradise!

Former Team India captain and Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) Mahendra Singh Dhoni will sent the temperatures in the cold November soaring when he will take to ground as a chief guest at the Grand Finale of Indian Army sponsored Chinar Cricket Premium League on Sunday.

The grand finale of Chinar Cricket Premium League 2017 will be played between the teams of North and South Kashmir comprising the best players from the two regions at sprawling Kunzer Cricket Ground in Baramulla district.

The Championship saw an overwhelming response this year with a total of 110 teams from across the restive valley participating in it. “The match on Sunday assumes great significance due to the presence of former Indian Cricket team Captain and current player Lt Col MS Dhoni at the venue as Chief Guest”, said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

During his visit, Dhoni is expected to interact with the young budding cricketers and share his experience with them. “The event will provide the youth of Kashmir a great opportunely to interact with the cricketing legend and derive inspiration to make it big in this sport for themselves”, said Colonel Kalia.

Earlier Dhoni visited the border town of Uri and interacted with the budding cricketers. For a change Dhoni did not keep wickets but instead chose to bowl to the local cricketers. Donning army battle fatigues with maroon beret of Special Forces, Dhoni gave tips to the local cricketers and happily posed for the pictures.

On November 22, Dhoni visited the Army Public School in Srinagar and interacted with the students.  Dhoni mingled with the students and shared his experience with them. Later he joined the students for a group photograph in the lawns of the Army Public School.  

It is not for the first time Lieutenant Colonel Dhoni is visiting Jammu and Kashmir.  On June 3, 2012. Dhoni visited the Aman Sethu, the last Indian army post on the line of control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir.  The then President Pratibha Patil granted the the rank of honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in September 2011.
