Romelu Lukaku conitnued his great form for Manchester United, scoring again in the 1-0 win against Southampton. However, his performance was again overshadowed by a song about him that includes reference to his manhood.

It was just after Lukaku had scored the game's only goal in the 20th minute that a majority of the travelling support broke into a chorus of the tune. United have already been forced to speak up against its use while the player had also appealed for everybody to move on.

A follow-up of ‘We’re Man Utd, we’ll sing what we want’ hardly helped matters after the chant.

It reads: "Manchester United has a zero tolerance stance on offensive chanting and behaviour. The club and player have been clear in asking for an end to the chant.

"The club has worked with relevant bodies and supporters groups in trying to eradicate any offensive behaviour and will take further action against individuals if this continues.

"The club is in discussion with the police and has asked for CCTV footage from Southampton and willl try to identify those who disrespected the player's wishes not to sing the song."

After the match, United issued a statement, vowing to take further action against individuals if the chanting continues.

It reads: "Manchester United has a zero tolerance stance on offensive chanting and behaviour. The club and player have been clear in asking for an end to the chant.

Manager Jose Mourinho evaded questions on the topic but insisted he struggles to understand football fans' songbooks - apart from the derogatory ones about him.

Lukaku's goal at St Mary’s settled a rather underwhelming contest to keep United apace with neighbours City at the top of the Premier League, and extended his fantastic start since switching from Everton in July. He now has eight goals in eight competitive games and has failed to score only once in United colours.
