Girl power! PV Sindhu to be India's flag-bearer at Commonwealth Games 2018

Ace shuttler and Rio Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu has received the honour of being the Indian contingent's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of 2018 Commonwealth Games, reports Times of India.

According to the daily, in a meeting, Indian Olympic Association made the decision on Friday. 

 

It is to be noted that for the first time in past three Commonwealth Games a badminton player would be the flag-bearer for the contingent.

At 2014 CWG in Glasgow, shooter Vijay Kumar was given the responsibility. Before him, at 2010 Delhi CWG, Beijing Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra was the flag-bearer.

 

Sindhu reached the semi-final of All England Badminton Championships last week. She currently ranks at the fourth spot in the world.

Sindhu is India's strong contender to win a medal at Gold Coast 2018. She won a bronze medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014. She is definitely looking to better her record in women's singles.
