Newly appointed Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis has urged former Pakistani cricketers to help him renew the lost faith and discipline in the struggling squad.

Younis, Pakistan’s fourth coach in the last three years, said it is the duty of the former greats to help the boys resurrect flaws in way they approach the game.

“In the past we had some greats of the game, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Javed Miandad. They served our country for many years but I think it's their duty now to do a bit of work with me,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Younis, as saying.

“That's what I'm going to request of them, to help the boys, to bring back the faith, particularly in the batting. When I go back that will be on my priority list, to bring those guys on to the scene, invite them to the camps and help make our guys realise that they're good enough to be at the top,” he added.

Younis, who has been living in Sydney for the past five years, admitted that his job would be a tough one, and his very first assignment, the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean, would test his skills.

Commenting on Pakistan’s recent disastrous tour Down Under, during he served as the team’s bowling and fielding coach, Younis said the series has highlighted the weakness of the team and he would try to remove it at the earliest.

“The problem has been that under pressure they don't really deliver. The faith in themselves and discipline is what's missing and I want to change that around. I'm talking about standing up at the right time,” he said.

“On the Australian tour we saw the team got into great positions but just gave it away. It was because we didn't have enough faith and belief in ourselves. We lost games when we should never lose them. The key is to make sure we win those games,” Younis added.
