US striker Landon Donovan has said that he is not the father of a love child with a British woman.

“I will not be a dad any time soon, which is good news for me,” The New York Post quoted Donovan, as saying.

The paternity scandal arose a day after US were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

A British woman had claimed to a U.K. tabloid that she was pregnant with a love child by the American striker.

Donovan is separated from his actress wife, Bianca Kajlich, but is believed to be hoping for reconciliation with her.

The couple have been separated for nearly a year, but are not divorced and do not have any children.

Earlier, the 28-year-old, who joined English Premier League club Everton on a 10-week loan from the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2009, said: “I was informed of the possibility [of a pregnancy] during the World Cup, and if I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support.”
