The Rs292-crore contribution made by former Rendezvous Sports World (RSW) CEO Shailendra alias Pradeep Gaikwad to the Kochi IPL team and his association with top cricketers remains unclear.
Gaikwad, his father Kisanrao, and mother Pushpa hold the largest chunk — 75.4% of the 25% free equity and 1% of the paid equity. In Solapur, Shailendra’s father Kisanrao refused to speak to the media, but issued a statement on Monday saying that the family would “continue to seek the blessings of Union minister Sharad Pawar”.
The press statement was read out by Shailendra’s sister Dr Pratibha Patil, a UK-based gynaecologist. When asked about Shailendra’s association with Pawar, Patil said, “Both are passionate about promoting cricket.”
“We have not invested a single rupee in this venture,” she said, adding that RSW has invested in the Kochi IPL team “through its skill of management, administration and marketing”.
Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, whose reported association with Pawar is now being discussed in the context of the Kochi IPL fallout, had inaugurated an automobile store for Gaikwad.
Gavaskar had inaugurated Shailendra’s Pushp Automotives shop which was into dealership of Mahindra vehicles some years ago. Cricketers such as Nayan Mongiya and Zaheer Khan were also present in that event.
Star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and BCCI selector Dilip Vengsarkar had visited Solapur to attend Shailendra’s sister’s wedding reception.
While Shailendra graduated in IT from Walchand Institute of Technology and opened the auto agency, his brother Ravindra cleared the state civil services and joined the Maharashtra government’s transport department.
Shailendra had reportedly financed Telugu film Mahalaxmi Bumper.
