Even as the Indian Premier League (IPL) controversy refuses to die down, the Hyderabad police are believed to have laid their hands on significant evidence related to large scale betting on the semi-final between Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings.

The second semi-final, which the Super Kings won, was played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.

According to the police, betting worth hundreds of crores happened on the semi-final, following which they have now pressed into action cyber experts and former bookies to track down the racket.

“Instead of using conventional techniques of writing the details down in a register or using mobile phones, betting now happens online. We have found some IP addresses and email links of some suspects. We are working on the leads,” a source from the police said. The police team were keeping a track on betting during the match on Thursday but failed to get any leads. “The suspects did not use their mobiles during the match. They were operating through the net,” an official said.

According to sources, the central intelligence too had alerted the Hyderabad police about the betting racket.

The police have already been keeping tabs on telephone, mobile and internet connections of certain public representatives.

“It is an international racket. We suspect that there are franchisees of these betting organisers in India and they are based in Hyderabad. It is too early to talk about anything or even confirm the happenings. We are still investigatibng all aspects,” the official added.
