Pak cricket team’s security manager resigns over “differences” with PCB boss

Pakistan cricket team’s security manager Khawaja Najam Javed has resigned due to his differences with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt.

The Daily Times quoted Najam, as saying on Saturday that he had handed in his resignation to Butt on December 14 because of  “differences of opinion with him.”

Meanwhile, the Pakistan cricket team has left for New Zealand without Najam, who was the security manager on the last two tours- that of England and the United Arab Emirates.

It is noteworthy that three Pakistani cricketers- Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aaamer- were charged under Article 2 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code on September 2, and have been provisionally suspended over “spot-fixing” charges during the tour of England.

In November, Pakistani wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider fled the team hotel in Dubai in secrecy just hours before Pakistan were scheduled to play their ODI series decider against South Africa in Dubai. The wicketkeeper later revealed that he had taken this extreme step after receiving death threats from match-fixers, and was now seeking asylum in the UK.
