American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn has mocked Tiger Woods, saying she too has a sex problem, following the golfer's public apology over his extra-marital affairs.

Vonn's statements feature in a story written by the Time.com author Sean Gregory.

It provides details to ribaldry that took place at the USA House, a space rented by the US Ski and Snowboard Association for its athletes, staff, sponsors, families, and other supporters to congregate during the Winter Olympics.

The gold medallist apparently poked fun at the hugs Woods received after his public apology.

"They're like, 'Yeah, you're awesome, you go have that sex," the New York Daily News quoted Vonn as saying.

The story then describes Vonn imagining herself in a Saturday Night Live skit, pretending to read a solemn apology from a podium.

Pretending to read a solemn script, she adds: "There's something you don't know about me Tiger, you're like my idol, and I too have a sex problem."

Meanwhile, the storywriter, Gregory, posted a Tweet claiming the statements were not fabricated.

He wrote: "L. Vonn's comments about Tiger Woods were not off-the-record."
