Jeremy Chardy will replace the injured Paul-Henri Mathieu in France's Davis Cup team to face holders Spain in a quarter-final tie next weekend, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) said in a statement on Sunday.

Mathieu was added to the team on Saturday along with Gilles Simon. The pair replaced Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and alternate Richard Gasquet, who were ruled out by injuries.

Back pain meant, however, that Mathieu would be unavailable for the July 9-11 tie in Clermont-Ferrand, the FFT said.

Captain Guy Forget has also picked Gael Monfils, Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra. One of the five players in the team will be an alternate. Forget did not specify which one.
