Rookie fast bowler Mohammad Irfan, who has been called up to play for Pakistan in the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies, has said that the call up was totally unexpected.

Irfan has been included in the 15-man Pakistani squad to replace injured fast bowler Umar Gul, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

“I was in a state of shock. I couldn't believe what I was watching. Of course I had been hoping for this to happen, but never did I dream that it would happen as quickly and as dramatically as this,” Pakpassion.net quoted Irfan, as saying.

“I was preparing myself for a possible call up to play during the games coming up in England later this year, but this is totally unexpected,” he added.

Irfan further said he was officially told of his selection and congratulated by everyone, including skipper Shahid Afridi and coach Waqar Younis.

“Afridi said mubarak lambu you have made it into the team, and Wicky bhai said shabash (well done). This is the reward for all your hard work and perseverance,” Irfan said.

“I’m going to be fitted for my official Pakistan kit tomorrow, then I'm to report to the National Cricket Academy on the April 23 to join the team before we fly out on the April 24,” he added.
