Grand double for Mars Racing’s Ameya Walavalkar

Mars Racing’s Ameya Walavalkar, from Mumbai, made it a grand double in the Formula LGB Swift category in the second round of the 14th JK Tyre national racing championship at the Kari Motor Speedway here on Sunday.

Mars Racing’s Ameya Walavalkar, from Mumbai, made it a grand double in the Formula LGB Swift category in the second round of the 14th JK Tyre national racing championship at the Kari Motor Speedway here on Sunday.

Walavalkar won a spectacular race that saw a lot of overtaking happen. He along with Karthik Krishna and Sudanand Rajan were all in the lead at some point or the other in the race. In the last lap, Krishna was leading but a superb overtaking move by Walavalkar ensured a win for him.

However, R Deepak, of Mars Racing, leads the championship with a total of 80 points. Krishna is second with 51 points and Walavalkar has 50.

B Bala Vijay of Moto-Rev India made it a double in the Indian junior touring cars section by winning the second race on Sunday. He had won the first race on Saturday.

However, he was excluded from both races as the stewards found a technical infringement on his car. TS Diljith, who finished second, moved up to first place and leads the championship with 99 points.

In the first race of the Polo R Cup, Mumbai’s Rahil Noorani stormed to victory, while Bangalore’s Ajay Kini finished a commendable second. The highlight of the race was the gritty driving show by Chennai’s Vishnu Prasad, who started ninth on the grid and finished third. In the second race,  Prasad was in even better form and won the race.

B Vijaykumar won the second race of the Super Saloons class. TR Radha Selvarajan finished second and D Vidya Prakash, who won the first race on Saturday, finished third. Selvarajan leads the points table with 86 points, Rajvirudhan has 63 and Vijaykumar is third on 60.
