Germany striker Miroslav Klose wins 100th cap

Germany striker Miroslav Klose made his 100th international appearance on Saturday when he was named in the starting line-up for their World Cup quarter-final match against Argentina.

The 32-year-old, who won his first cap back in March 2001 against Albania when he came on as a substitute and scored the winner two minutes from time, has netted 50 goals for Germany.

He has also scored 12 World Cup goals in three editions to equal Pele, three behind top scorer Ronaldo on 15.

Klose, who is in joint seventh place on Germany's most-capped players list and in third spot in their all-time scorers' list, came into the tournament on the back of his worst season after scoring only three league goals for Bayern Munich.

Germany coach Joachim Loew was criticised for picking Klose for his World Cup squad after he had fired mainly blanks all season but the striker paid back the trust in their first group match, scoring the first in their 4-0 win over Australia.

Klose then grabbed the lead again in their 4-1 win over England in the last 16.
