Gagan, Khade strike gold

Bangalore lad Gagan took home his second gold medal of the competition while Khade was unstoppable en route to clinching his third gold.

Indians continued to put up a staggering performance particularly Virdhawal Khade and Gagan AP who were unmatched in their respective events at the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Tokyo, Japan. Bangalore lad Gagan took home his second gold medal of the competition while Khade was unstoppable en route to clinching his third gold on Wednesday.

Competing in the long distance (1500m freestyle), the 17-year-old Gagan erased the national mark with a timing of 16min 10.90sec. In the men’s 100m freestyle group A, Khade clocked 49.66sec to sink the meet record previously held by Alaxander Skylar (50.31sec). Meanwhile in waterpolo, India drew 7-7 with Singapore.

Results: Men’s Group A (18-plus): Rehan Poncha (400m IM) 4min 29.89sec (NR); Sandeep Sejwal (200m breaststroke) 2min 12:02sec (bronze, NR); Women’s Group A (18-plus): Richa Mishra (400m IM) 5min 05.72sec (Bronze); Women’s Group A (18-plus): Fariha Zaman (50m Back) 31.33sec (Bronze); Men’s Group B (15-17): Gagan A.P (1500m Freestyle) - 16min 10.90sec (Gold, national record previously held by Mandar Divase 16:12:28)
