Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy debacle against minnows Rajasthan in Jaipur last week will top the agenda of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Cricket Improvement Committee meeting to be held on Monday, January 3.

The defending champions lost the quarterfinal tie tamely. It is learnt that the members have decided to take a tough stand against some of the decisions taken by their various committees.

In the firing line are some of the selectors. “There were some erratic decisions taken by the selectors this year and it is likely that some of them will face the axe. However, I don’t think this will be right as you can’t react after the result. You should have taken notice of it long back,” an MCA official said.

“The recent managing committee meeting saw a heated debate between the committee members over Mumbai’s performance in the Ranji Trophy. In desperation, the managing committee decided to call for an emergency meeting of the CIC,” said a source from the CIC.

However, it is unlikely that the CIC chief, Sunil Gavaskar will chair the meeting. MCA vice president Dilip Vengsarkar will do the honours in Gavaskar’s absence.
