Australian batsman Michael Hussey believes that the ongoing Commonwealth Bank series has worked really well due to the fact that it had three one-day teams of the same competence level.

Australia is facing Sri Lanka in the first final at The Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday.

"In this particular case, we've got three excellent one-day teams; it's been really good, a really tight series," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hussey, as saying.

Hussey said there is no point behind having a low ranked team playing in a tri-series with two better teams, since in that case the finalist's are almost decided.

"I guess where it becomes a little bit [of a drag] is when you've got one of the lower teams in the tri-series as well and the top two teams just run away with it - [at the start] you already know who's going to be in the finals and by the end there's a couple of meaningless games if you [definitely] know," he said.

Hussey said he would prefer tri-series only be held when all three teams are similarly matched.

"Obviously there's a lot more work that goes into it than just saying something like that because there's a lot of financial implications for the boards to consider. But from a player's point of view, when you've got three excellent teams a tri-series works really well," he added.
