England will take on Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) XI in a warm-up match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at Uppal, near Hyderabad, on Saturday.

The visitors will meet the same opposition in another practice game at the same venue on Tuesday.

Given that every match of the upcoming ODI series (and the lone Twenty20 International) between India and England will be a day-night affair, the two warm-up ties will also be played under lights. Alastair Cook & Co, who arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday, are looking forward to play some cricket again. After all, the Uppal stadium will host the first ODI on October 14. “I hope it would be great practice under the lights,” Cook had said on Thursday.

It may be noted that the ICC’s amended playing conditions took effect on October 1. The practice matches are likely to be played under the new guidelines, which include the use of one ball from each end besides enforcing a ban on runners. “We are not sure how they (new rules) would affect the conditions but the team that adapts quickly to the changes will have an advantage,” Cook had opined.

The visitors will, however, will face a weak opposition in the practice game. Given that the top Indian players are either playing the Champions League Twenty20 or preparing for the Challenger Trophy, England will face a local team.

Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) secretary DS Chalapathi said the HCA XI would comprise players who have been named in the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic Twenty20 tournament to be held at Chennai from October 16. “T Suman is with Mumbai Indians for the CLT20. Hence, he will miss this game,” Chalapathi informed.

It is reliably learnt that England will bat first on Saturday. They will, however, bowl first in Tuesday’s game.
