Don Bosco, Matunga, continued their dominance in the city’s inter-school football scene by adding the boys’ Under-14 MSSA championship to their ever increasing list of titles. They defeated St Pius, Mulund, 4-3 via tie-break in the final at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

The game was a tight affair, with both defenses putting up a good performance and duly keeping clean sheets. In the shootout, Don Bosco changed their keeper’ from Gurkiran Bhatia to Janam Mehta and the move seemed to have paid dividends as Mehta saved the very first kick Shubham Ghorpade.

St Pius went level, when Quentin Britto’s kick was saved but failed to push the game into sudden death as Aditya Raichura missed the last shot.

Bosco coach, Mohan Pillay was pleased with the victory as he believed his team was tired because they have lot of matches this season. “We participate in Utpal Saghvi, DSO and Subroto Cup along with this tournament. I believe that if the boys had some rest they would have managed to score,” Pillay said.
