England had earlier whitewashed India in the recently concluded four match test series.
Ahead of the first one-day international match against India, England skipper Alastair Cook said India is the current world champions and they cannot be taken lightly.
"India, they are world champions, they are full of huge man talent in their side. But we are going to constrain ourselves and keep building of what we did it against Sri Lanka," said Cook.
"I think it is lot of credit the way we played, we put India under lot of pressure in the test series and hopefully we can continue it," he added.

"Hopefully, we can, as I said build over what we did to Sri Lanka. It is a long process, this to get where we want to get to, there is lot of hard work ahead of us but as you saw there are practices we start very well, hopefully we can turn into the tomorrow," asserted Cook.
However, England's utter dominance in a quartet of lopsided test victories proved that India's fortress was built on flimsy foundations.
India's much-vaunted batting line-up failed to fire, their bowlers bled runs without success and the standard of their fielding would have embarrassed any club side.
Many believe the seeds of destruction were sown by the Indian cricket board, which compiled a lucrative but punishing schedule that ensured most of the players were either exhausted or injured by the time they set foot on English soil.
India's World Cup victory in April was preceded by a South Africa tour and less than a week after lifting one-day cricket's biggest trophy in Mumbai, skipper MS Dhoni and his men were honouring their Indian Premier League obligations in the cash-rich Twenty20 league.
