Ever since Mumbai lost to Jammu & Kashmir and gifted first-innings points to Railways, coach Pravin Amre has put up a brave front. He has never dismissed his players and always defended them in front of the media. On Wednesday, the players finally did Amre proud by defeating Uttar Pradesh by eight wickets at the Green Park in Kanpur.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav once again batted well to score an unbeaten 47 and take Mumbai to the 98-run target after seamers Wilkin Mota (4/30), Shardul Thakur (3/70) and Kshemal Waingankar (2/36) bundled the hosts out for just 161.

On his way to Lucknow from Kanpur, Amre said, "This win was very important especially after what the team went through in the first two games. The boys deserve credit for the character and the temperament they showed throughout the game. Bowling UP out for 206, after they were 100 for no loss in the first innings, and then again getting them out for 161 in the second dig, is a commendable feat. It was a collective effort."

He added, "The conditions weren't that easy. It was cold and foggy and only 50-60 overs could be bowled in a day due. Winning from that kind of a situation is something special. Yes, the boys were under pressure after the first two games, but we had good players and we had to back them. Shreyas (Iyer) proved himself with a crucial knock and Shardul played an important role," he added.

Amre elaborated on the atmosphere in the dressing room. "Despite the first two games, the boys stayed positive and were gelling well. It's too early to talk about the title, but we have definitely got the momentum now. We have to focus on one game at a time. It's a happy dressing room," he said.
