Rohan Bopanna made a return to the Indian Davis Cup squad after a two-year hiatus after the All India Tennis Association (AITA) included the doubles specialist in a six-member team for the Asia/Oceania Group I tie against Chinese Taipei that starts from January 31 in Indore.

“In my 11th year representing India, I’m honoured to represent my country and this time, as the senior most player. I’m ecstatic to be in the Davis Cup team,” Bopanna said.Meanwhile, there was yet again no place for Bhupathi, who hasn’t played Davis Cup for the last three years. Leander Paes had earlier opted out of national duty this year due to personal reasons. However, Bhupathi said he was “very surprised” that Ramkumar Ramanathan, who defeated Somdev Devvarman in the first round of the recently-concluded Chennai Open, didn’t find a place in the team.”He is our best young talent and it would have made sense to start him on the team,” Bhupathi said.

Squad: Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, Rohan Bopanna, Saketh Myneni Reserves: Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, Sanam Singh Special Invitee: Ramkumar Ramanathan
