We have seen S Sreesanth shuttle between the cricketing world and the comic strips. Occasionally on dance shows. In our wildest fantasies, we wouldn’t have visualised the Sreesanth that Kochi saw on Wednesday.

He landed in Kochi at 9:20 in the morning, and reached his sister’s home at Tripunithura.

The hair was parted neatly from the left like those devout IIT students. And he was holding a copy of The Books of the Bible.

To make the Sufi look complete, he wrapped himself in a pink shawl gifted to him by a fan at the airport. They call it ‘ponnada’.

The pictures told a story of a man who has just come out of a netherworld. As we would expect, he was hounded by the eagle-eyed media who were locking every moment in frames.

But no bizarre event may ever occur in Kochi than the sight of people braving the rains and shouting: Sreesanth ki jai. Given the prelude to this day, the scene was impossible to comprehend.

Sreesanth did oblige them all. “I promise you I will never give up,” he said. “My dream obviously is to play cricket. All I want to do is to play cricket and get back into the team... It is a dream to play in the South African series. But I am not sure about it now.”

He spoke of restoring his old world: being with his parents and start training again. But how will he dodge the charges of selling overs?

“I’ve done no wrong,” he insisted. “The arrest could be part of a conspiracy. It will soon come out.” “All I can say is that I love this game. I have given the very best from the day one I played this game. You must trust me. I totally believe in judiciary. I’m waiting for everything to be sorted out.”

“Trust. Whatever that means” — outraged fans might say. Only two weeks back, they made known that they had abandoned him forever. But Sreesanth insisted that his people stood by him. He even thanked Rajasthan Royals and the BCCI.  “Everybody was messaging. I’ve no complaints against anybody. Everybody was doing their duty. I’ve no complaints against anyone,” he said. “Whatever has happened has happened for a reason. I’m happy to be home.”
