Supriya Mondal makes Youth Olympics cut with gold at Dubai

Swimmer Supriya Mondal qualified for the 2014 Youth Olympics, winning gold in the 200m butterfly event at the 1st Dubai International Aquatic Championships in Hamdan on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old made the cut for the 2014 Youth Olympics to be held in August at Nanjing, China. Achieving the 'A' qualification mark, Supriya won the event, clocking a time of 2:03.93s. This was one of three medals won by Supriya at the event. Mondal won a silver in 100m butterfly and followed it up with a gold in the 50m butterfly. clocking 25.67s today, achieving the 'B' qualification mark in both the events.

Hailing from Shahpur in West Bengal, Mondal has won several national level events. "Qualifying for the Youth Olympics is a dream come true for me. I am thankful to my family, coach and others who have supported my dream. I hope to make them all proud at the Youth Olympics in August and beyond," he said.
