Saina Nehwal's dream: To win a medal at Rio 2016 Olympics

The poster girl of Indian badminton Saina Nehwal has been on a roll and has kept adding one title after another to her rich haul of medals and trophies. The 25-year-old has won two titles in two months, the India Open Grand Prix Gold in January and the India Open in March and was briefly the World No.1.  

Saina, the first Indian women shuttler to achieve world number one ranking, dropped to the second rank after a short stint as No. 1 as per latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday. But that has not dented the Hyderabadi shuttler's spirit as she now aims to win a medal for India at next year's Rio 2016 Olympics.

The only Indian woman to have won the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championships, Saina, in an interview to a magazine said that numbers (rankings and points) don't matter to her. She further added that there was no pressure on her. 

When asked what kind of efforts went into attaining the top spot, she said valuable tips from her coach Vimal Kumar, stamina and endurance building and agility drills helped her immensely. 

Cool and composed Saina has not really felt the pressure of expectations from her fans. She says that she is happy with them and responds to their queries when needed.

The most feared and dominating in the racquet sport are the Chinese, but they are no longer a worry for Saina who says the improved infrastructure in India has upped the quality of players who can comfortably take on the Chinese.
