Sachin Tendulkar will fade from public memory soon after retirement, says Javed Miandad

Former Pakistani Test captain Javed Miandad said he believes that Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will soon fade from public memory once he retires after the second Test against West Indies as he is leaving at a time when the Indian cricket team have found some impressive talent to fill the void.

Tendulkar had announced that he would retire after the second Test, which would also be his 200th Test and will be played at his home ground at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, beginning on Thursday.

According to the Daily Times, Miandad said that it is the nature of cricket fans of the subcontinent to tend to forget a player soon after he retires, especially if the said player tries to prolong his international career, adding that he feels that Tendulkar is going at a time when India has found some very talented batsmen who are now the reigning heroes.

Stating that he himself had made the mistake of trying to prolong his career, Miandad further said he feels that Tendulkar should have announced his retirement after India won the 2011 World Cup at home as then it would have been the perfect farewell for him.

Although the batting legend admitted that Tendulkar deserved all the respect heaped upon him as he has made a lot of contributions to Indian cricket, he however, felt that in the subcontinent the adulation top players got made it difficult for them to decide when was the right time for them to retire, adding that this happened with many greats in the past.

Miandad also said that he would like to see legendary players in the subcontinent being honoured the same way Tendulkar is being honoured before his final Test.
