India has never been known for its fielding but in the recent years that perception has changed. The recent crop of Indian cricketers are some of the best fielders in the world. In the first Test of India’s tour of New Zealand in 2014, the host skipper Brendon McCullum, came at a difficult time of 30 for three and went on to score a double hundred. India needed a special effort from the Kiwi skipper and Ravindra Jadeja provided that.

Jadeja combined precision with athleticism to get rid of a well set McCullum who was batting on 224. McCullum took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and once again looked to do so, when he smacked Ishant Sharma towards long on, where Jadeja was patrolling. The trajectory of ball was such that it seemed it would clear the boundary but Jadeja showed some brilliant presence of mind.

He leapt and took the catch inches inside the boundary but was not able to maintain his balance, he backhanded the ball into the field of play, went over the rope, regained his balance, came in and caught it comfortably. He maintained a great composure throughout this.

Jadeja’s effort was hailed by everyone in the field and we witnessed a good sportsmanship when McCullum exchanged high-fives with the Indian cricketer. Although India lost the Test but Jadeja’s catch will be remembered and it’s certainly one of the best catches he ever took.
