Mumbai captain Aditya Tare played an attacking knock on Friday to guide his team to a strong position against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy final at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The defending champions headed into lunch at 294 for 5 on Day 4 with a lead of 194.

Tare's unbeaten innings of 68 came off 105 balls and was studded with 12 boundaries. The wicketkeeper-batsman was aggressive right from the get go and his innings was crucial for Mumbai as Suryakumar Yadav departed after a laborious 49 off 215 balls. Veteran all-rounder Abhishek Nayar was giving his skipper company at the crease after middle-order batsman Siddesh Lad fell for 15.

Mumbai have always been known for stunning second-inning fight-backs and this tie seems to be heading the same way. With five sessions left to play, Mumbai are inching towards gaining the upper hand. Skipper Parthiv Patel and his Gujarat team have it all to do if they want to win their maiden Ranji title.
