PCB offers Waqar Younis two-year contract for Pakistan head coach post

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has revealed that the managing committee has offered former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis a two-year contract for the position of head coach of the national team.

Sethi said that he put the matter before PCB's managing committee and they chose the option led by Moin Khan, which former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram had listed at number one.

The PCB chief said that not everyone had been happy with the decision, but they let it go because they had no time to constitute a new committee and come up with different choices, the Dawn reported.

Sethi said that it had never been a Khan or Younis option for the PCB as formulated by Akram, adding that the new formula has both former players in a format that the Pakistani board thinks will produce better result and that is the reason he has now given them two-year contracts like Dav Whatmore earlier.

Younis, who coached Pakistan in 2010 and 2011 before resigning for 'personal' reasons during Ijaz Butt's tenure as PCB chief, had reportedly expressed his willingness for the post again after Pakistan's coach-finding committee had rejected his previous application in early February.

However, it is yet unclear whether Younis has accepted the offer, but Sethi's claims have confirmed recent rumours that negotiations between the two parties were underway for the position of head coach for Pakistan, the report added.
