Olympic diving superstar Tom Daley took to his official YouTube page on December 2, and announced that he is in a relationship with a man, and that he couldn't be happier.
19-year-old British diving star Tom Daley, for the first time ever speaks about his new partner, in a five-minute video that he posted on YouTube on Monday morning. Daley used the video-sharing website to reach out to his fans and speak about his sexual orientation making him the most prominent British sportsman ever to come out.
He made the announcement to "put an end to all the rumours and speculation." He wanted to set the record straight after he was misquoted in an interview in The Daily Mirror. It seems in the interview he said, “I think it’s funny when people say I’m gay... I laugh it off", but Daley wanted to be clear about his orientation and express himself plainly.
Tom goes on to say, "I've been dating girls and I've never really had a serious relationship to talk about and now I feel ready to talk about my relationships. Come spring this year my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great. And, well, that someone is a guy."
Daley who is a Bronze medal winner at the London 2012 Olympics, and a former World Champion, said he used YouTube as a forum so that his words wouldn't be "twisted".
Before this revelation, Tom admits that only a few people knew about his relationship, but all of them, including his mother Debbie, have been very supportive.
