New Zealand lost three early wickets, and most of the momentum they built on day one, to slump to 295 for six at lunch, on the second day of the second test against Pakistan, in Dubai on Tuesday.

After their resolute opening day, the visitors failed to capitalise on their strong start and endured a poor morning session, adding just 52 runs for the loss of three wickets.

BJ Watling (18 not out) and Mark Craig (13 not out) will return after the break, hoping to repair the damage and put up a big first innings total, to put pressure on their rivals, who lead the three-match series 1-0.

Resuming on 243 for three, New Zealand saw off the first over of the day from Rahat Ali before running into trouble.

Corey Anderson drove Ehsan Adil's fourth delivery of the day straight to Azhar Ali at cover after adding two runs to his overnight score of seven.

Latham could not add to his career-best overnight score of 137, perishing caught behind in the next over to a beautiful Rahat delivery, that lured the batsman into a drive before the slight away movement took an edge.

Left-handed Latham's 269-ball knock included 11 boundaries and a six.

Jimmy Neesham (17) resisted the Pakistani spinners for almost an hour before chipping an Yasir Shah delivery to rival captain Misbah-ul-Haq at midwicket.

It could easily have been worse for New Zealand, only for Rahat to spill a skied catch at midwicket after Craig had attempted a slog-sweep off Yasir.
