MS Dhoni's first coach Chanchal Bhattacharyya feels the cricketer has taken the decision to retire from Test cricket at the right time.

As Dhoni hung up his boots, Bhattacharyya claimed that the skipper was not happy with a few things. "I think the decision has come at a right time. He has helped India salvage a draw in Melbourne, and for a captain this is perhaps the ideal time to leave the game," Bhattacharyya told ABP News on Tuesday.

As a youngster, Dhoni would visit Bhattacharyya at his academy ground, and would watch the seniors bat for hours. "That’s what made him special. He has always been passionate about the game, and even after being dropped from the India U-19 team’s tour to Kenya, he made it to the national side. Not everybody can do that," Bhattacharyya said.

Dhoni's coach says rumours related dto IPL match fixing hurt Dhoni. "Lately he was a little upset with whatever was happening. The media too went after him, and perhaps, that hurt him. He had told me on a few occasions, that he would quit Test cricket. And, this was it," Bhattacharyya said.

From that young Mahi from Ranchi, Dhoni went on to become Captain Cool. Ask Bhattacharyya about the journey and he was nostalgic. "When Dinesh Karthik was selected for the U-19 tour to Kenya, he came up to me and asked me what should be done. We worked together, and then, the rest is history," Bhattacharyya recollected.

Now, with Dhoni focusing solely on the World Cup, Bhattacharyya, however, feels it would become a bit difficult for Virat Kohli to get used to the conditions. "All this while, he has guided the team like a guardian. But now, the onus will be on youngsters. The stumpers like Wriddhiman Saha and Naman Ojha would be tested too."

Having seen him emerge as a star, Bhattacharyya said would call 'Mahi', once things settle down. "He would be busy now. But we will connect soon…," he signed off.
