After the managing committee of Mumbai Cricket Association wrapped up, MCA chief Shard Pawar announced that the will be stepping down from the position in light of the Supreme Court judgement on the Justice Lodha Committee report.

"As per SC guidelines, I can continue for six months. But whenever my work is over, I will retire," said Pawar at the press conference.

The relevant part of the Supreme Court judgement says: any elected Councillor shall stand automatically disqualified after nine years as an office-bearer, and shall also be disqualified from contesting or holding the post if he has completed the age of 70 years, is charged under the penal law, is declared to be of unsound mind, is a Minister or government servant or holds any post of another sports body in the country.

Sharad Pawar falls under both categories.

Former Test captain Dilip Vengsarkar has also completed nine years - in two stints - as Vice-President of the association. His first stint was between 2003-04 to 2010-11.

Along with Vengsarkar, current Joint Secretary PV Shetty and Treasurer Nitin Dalal have also become ineligible along with a few other committee members, according to MCA sources.

Taking a dig at the Lodha committee members Pawar said, "Whatever Supreme Court has suggested we have accepted, but SC has approved a panel of judges who are above 70 years."
