Karn Sharma was out for a jog Thursday morning when he answered a call from his sister and he could not believe what he heard. The Railway leggie had made IPL history becoming the most expensive uncapped player in the auction on Thursday.
"I was expecting something, but not Rs 3.75 crore and become the most expensive uncapped player," Sharma told dna.
Sharma was bought back by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the next three seasons. "It is a big thing and a reason to be happy. I have worked hard and performed for my team SRH and Railways. I would like to continue that way," said Sharma.
The 26-year-old thanked his parents and coach Abhay Sharma for supporting him.
"I plan to hand over all this money to my parents and leave it up to them to decide what to do with it. My job is just to concentrate on the matches ahead."
Sharma has not had it easy. After failing to get into the Uttar Pradesh Ranji team, the youngster joined Railways as a class 4 employee for future prospects.
"That's how I started getting opportunities and now I am here," said Sharma.
Sharma has faced criticism for being overweight. "That is hereditary and yet, I used to be taunted. I would run in the heat and shed those kilos."
