Asian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jitu Rai shot his way to a bronze medal in the men's 10 metres air pistol event at the ISSF Shooting World Cup in Changwon, South Korea, on Sunday.

Rai, who tallied 181.1 points, missed out on the gold medal shootout by 0.4 points. The qualification round saw Rai finish eighth with a total of 581 points. He was the last shooter to qualify for the event and had some tough competition from Russia's Anton Gourianov.

Jin Jongoh of Korea won the gold medal with a world record score of 206, beating Naung Ye Tun of Myanmar (201) in the shootout.

Sunday's win fetched Rai his seventh medal in international events, a run that started last June with the World Cup competitions in Munich and Maribor. Victory tasted sweeter after his disappointing performance on Saturday in the 50 metres pistol, the event in which he is ranked World No. 2. For the record, Rai had qualified for the Rio de Janeiro last year.

Rai's compatriots in the 10 metres air pistol event, Prakash Nanjappa and Gurpreet Singh, finished 18th and 48th, respectively, in the qualification round.

Chain Singh made the cut for the eight-man final in the 50 metres rifle prone event ahead of Gagan Narang and finished sixth. In the women's 50 metres rifle 3 position, Elizabeth Susan Koshy shot 580 in the elimination round to finish fourth, while Lajja Gauswami and Anjali Bhagwat finished fifth and eighth, respectively.
