A solid combined batting effort from the Indian colts ensured they beat West Indies Under-19 by 46 runs and finished fifth in the ICC Under-19 World Cup at the Dharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Opener Ankush Bains (74), Sanju Samson (67) and Shreyas Iyer (66) guided the defending champions to 340, which is the highest team total of the tournament. Samson's 56-ball knock had as many as five sixes, while Iyer's 66 had four maximums.
In reply, Tagenarine Chanderpaul looked like taking the match away from the Indian with a solid 112, but there was not much support for him at the other end, with only Nicolas Pooran making 54. The Windies could only manage 294 in their quota of 50 overs. Left-arm medium-pacer Chama Milind picked up two wickets, while the rest of the bowlers had nothing much to show.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh defeated New Zealand by 77 runs to win their fourth Plate Championship at the World Cup.
