IND vs ENG: Karun Nair creates unprecedented Indian feat by smashing triple ton

Karun Nair became the second Indian after Virender Sehwag to score a triple century as India declared their first innings at 759 for seven, a lead of 282 runs, on day four of the fifth and final test against England on Monday. England reached 12 for no loss at stumps.

Incidentally, he also became the first Indian to convert a maiden hundred into a triple century. Gary Sobers and Bob Simpson are the only other international cricketers to achieve this feat.

This is also India's highest total in Test cricket.

Nair top-scored with an unbeaten 303 and Ravichandran Ashwin (67) and Ravindra Jadeja (51) hit half-centuries in India's highest ever total at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. India hold an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. 

Nair was elated after the day's play and said, "This is the best knock I have played in my life. Many situations in the middle when I had to play differently, with Rahul, Ashwin and Jaddu. I have to thank them for supporting me, egging me on. The first hundred is always important and I think when I got the first hundred, I didn't feel any pressure. I was just playing my shots after that."

Asked about the reaction of his family, Nair said, "My dad watches most of my games.  There was no extra pressure on me. I'd like to thank them for coming over. I think they should be proud of me."

On being asked whether he teased KL Rahul for getting out on 199, Nair said, "Rahul is a good player. He'll get his 200 soon. The pitch is getting worse day by day. It's hard for a new batsman. It's turning a bit right now, hope it turns more tomorrow."
