Prithvi Shaw of Rizvi Springfield and Shreyas Dalvi of IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya stole the limelight with each scoring double centuries on the opening day of the Elite Division Harris Shield cricket tournament on Tuesday.
Shaw was unbeaten on 257 and is on course for more against St Francis D’Assisi while Dalvi made 254 against IES Digamber Patkar Vidyalaya.
Shaw, who consumed 166 balls including 27 boundaries and three sixes, is looking good to score a quadruple hundred and could emulate the feats of his earlier teammates Sarfaraz Khan (439 in Harris Shield) and Armaan Jaffer (498 in Harris & 473 in Giles).
Springfield coach Raju Pathak said he has given Shaw the full freedom to bat. “We have two days and I have told Prithvi to go on without pressurising him for a 400. He is a talented batsman and plays without any pressure,” he said.
Fresh after hitting a century in ‘A’ Division Kanga League for Parel Sporting against Muslim United, Shaw has been in a brilliant form. Rizvi were 354/1 in reply to D’Assisi’s first innings score of 94.
Meanwhile, Dalvi’s double ton took IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya to 429/4.
In another match, IES VN Sule Guruji left-arm spinner Dhruva Vedak took 6/30 to bundle out Parle Tilak Vidyalaya (Vile Parle) for 91. In return, IES were 163/4.
