Dhoni & Co all-time-best: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former Test batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, who has played alongside Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammed Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar, feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team is the best all-round side India has ever had.

India’s domination in the world cricket began last year when they edged the invincible Aussies at Perth (and later the VB Series win) followed by series wins at home and a convincing triumph over the Kiwis at their own backyard which actually sparked the debate whether Dhoni’s boys are best in the world.

The 43-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator, who inaugurated an indoor cricket academy in Mulund, said “This is the best all-round team which has a great balance.”
The veteran of 37 Tests said the victory in Kiwiland was step forward towards being the numero uno. “The win in New Zealand was a step forward for India and the way MSD and Co. dominated in the difficult conditions was a mark of great progression,” he felt.

Indoor Academy in Mulund
Former Ranji cricketers Raju Shirke and Ravi Thakkar kicked off a new concept of having an indoor cricket academy in Mulund, the central suburbs, for the youngsters.
It’s a first in the city for budding cricketers as the other — in BKC — owned by MCA only allows the Mumbai cricketers to train. The academy in Mulund at Kalidas Kreeda Sankul was inaugurated by Sanjay Manjrekar on Tuesday.

“I used to take school cricketers to England for some match practice and when it rained we practiced indoor…That’s when the idea of having something similar came into my mind,” says Ravi Thakkar.
