Former champions were folded out for 156 in first innings on a seamer friendly track on Day One
It wasn't a start that Mumbai wanted. The former champions were folded out for a meagre 156 against Delhi on Day One of the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals at the Driems Ground, Cuttack, on Monday.
Delhi were 20 for the loss of one wicket with skipper Gautam Gambhir (5 batting) at the crease.
On a seamer friendly track, none of the Mumbai batsmen put up a fight barring last match centurion Nikhil Patil against a potent Delhi attack. Patil continued his form and scored an unbeaten 54 as wickets kept falling at the other end.
The other notable scorer from the Mumbai side was captain and opener Aditya Tare. He scored a 121-ball 39 before edging seamer Sumit Narwal to wicket keeper Rahul Yadav.
Delhi pacers Sumit Narwal (3/37) and Pradeep Sangwan did bulk of the damage while left-arm spinner Manan Sharma (2/39) also did the job as they bowled out the opposition in 81 overs.
Mumbai captain Aditya Tare (39) and Nikhil Patil (54 not out) were the only ones to make a substantial contribution.
