Widening its probe approach in the IPL betting scandal, the Delhi police on Monday spoke to former BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale and IPL CEO Sundar Raman in the national capital to understand the cricket board’s role in the agreement it has with IPL teams and its players.

Jagdale and Raman flew from Mumbai on Monday morning and met officials at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel, where they provided detailed information on the tripartite agreement.
Clarifying that it was merely an information gathering effort, a senior police officer said, “Till the time we file a charge sheet, we can talk to any official to ask for inputs. We called them (Jagdale and Raman) to understand the different aspects of the tripartite IPL agreement.”

Jagdale, who resigned from the BCCI on Friday, was called as he was the signatory in the contract on behalf of the cricket body. Raman was asked to appear because of his direct interest in the case.

Jagdale told the police that the Supreme Court had appointed a former police commissioner to probe the spot-fixing case and that he will soon submit his report before it.

The police, added the officer, is leaving no stone unturned to build a watertight case. “A battery of lawyers, including Dayan Krishan, who was the prosecution lawyer in the December 16 gang rape case, and advocate Rajiv Mohan, will examine the case’s legal aspects.”

The Delhi police are still on the hunt for nine more bookies and fixers. So far, 26 bookies and players, including Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, have been arrested from different states.
