Carlos Alberto Torres, who captained Brazil to the FIFA World Cup triumph in 1970 and years later turned out in Kolkata for an exhibition match alongside soccer legend Pele, would accompany the coveted World Cup trophy in Kolkata on December 22.

The Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup Trophy, will stay in the football-crazy metropolis for two days, the soft drinks giants announced on Thursday as state Sports Minister Madan Mitra flagged off a tableau with a giant Cup replica at the Princep Ghat.

During his stay, Carlos would interact with and encourage football enthusiasts of the city, which would be part of the marquee trophy's tour for the second time.

Football's most coveted prize will be covering 88 countries this year - its longest journey to date.

Carlos was part of the star-studded Cosmos football club of the US which had played an exhibition game with city giants Mohun Bagan in 1977. The match played before a full house at the Eden Gardens had ended in a 2-2 draw with Carlos scoring a goal.
