The British Airways (BA) has apologised to Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and his mother after one of its staff made insulting comments about Judy Murray.

Simon Taylor, a BA area manager in charge of 1,500 cabin crew worldwide, had compared Judy Murray's face and features to a 'recently salted slug', 'manatee's spleen' and 'arthritic ping pong ball', with his tirade hitting Facebook just as her son was winning Wimbledon, The Sun reports.

The remarks of Taylor, who is facing the sack, comes a month after the airline ran a contest for its passengers to win a day with the British No.1.

Insisting that Taylor was off-duty when he made his 'inappropriate postings', BA apologised for the comments and said that they are taking the matter seriously.
