Meanwhile, Bengal beat Karnataka by 10 wickets.

Assam stunned Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai by 27 runs to enter the semifinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy limited-overs knock-out tournament in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Assam were bowled out for 178 after Mumbai captain Wasim Jaffer sent them to bat first. However, Mumbai folded up for a mere 151.

The big names of Mumbai batting including Jaffer and Rohit Sharma failed to make any mark. While Jaffer fell for 5, Sharma failed to open his account after facing four deliveries. Shoaib Shaikh top-scored for Mumbai with 42 while Ankeet Chavan chipped in with 36. Assam medium-pacer Abu Nechim was the pick of the bowlers with three for 31.

Earlier, new ball bowlers Aavishkar Salvi (3/25) and Rajesh Verma (3/32) struck repeatedly to restrict Assam to under 180.

In the day’s other quarterfinal, Bengal crushed Karnataka by 10 wickets to set up a semifinal clash with Delhi. The semifinals will be held on March 2.
