Yahoo acquires URL-shortening ad-service Bread

Yahoo has acquired URL-shortening advertisement startup Bread, shutting down the service, but integrating the technology and its employees.

Bread is a URL shortener that allowed users to make money through interstitial advertisements that promoted products, which was shown to people who clicked on their links.

A Yahoo spokesperson said the company has retained a team of six engineers and product managers, who will join the advertising technology organisation in Sunnyvale, News24 reports.

All Bread links will go dead in the next 30 days and Yahoo has recommended the users should switch to another URL-shortener, bit.ly, if they still require shortening.
