Xiaomi has launched the successor to the Redmi Note 3 in India - the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.
At Xiaomi’s launch event today, we got our first look at the new entry in the company's budget series, the Redmi Note 4. Here's our first brief impression of the “Absolute new king of battery life”.
At just over 8mm thin, the Redmi Note 4 looks even sleeker than its predecessor, the Redmi Note 4. With aluminium body sporting a burnished metal finish, it walks the fine line between sooth to touch and tactile enough to grip perfectly. A few design changes from the older version, Xiaomi is aiming for symmetry here. The rear panel speakers have been moved to the bottom edge, flanking the micro USB port (no Type-C here), and the headphone jack on the top left balances out the IR scanner on the opposite side.
The phone’s 5.5-inch Full HD display did a good job in our brief experience with it. The new 2.5D curved glass in use definitely adds a little more touch of class. The Redmi Note 4 also goes with its traditional hard buttons. On the rear is a 13MP CMOS camera, with a dual tone LED flash just beneath, and the fingerprint scanner under those two. Unfortunately, while the camera was one of the phones major talking points, it seemed to reveal some minor pixel drops under the harsh display lighting. A more detailed workout of the camera will tell us if that's a recurring issue, when we do our review.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 will be available in Gold and Dark Grey colours at launch, both good lookers themselves, with the more svelte Matte Black following soon after. And despite a worrisome omen from the camera, this phone is currently shaping up to be quite the budget smartphone superstar. Of course, we'll know for sure after our in-depth review in a few days.
