It seems WhatsApp is finally getting support for GIFs on Android, with the feature being spotted in the new beta version of the app.

First reported by Android Police, the feature is available in the beta app version 2.16.242 onwards. WhatsApp beta lets users convert a video of six seconds or under into a GIF, that they can then share in chat.

All you have to do is click the attachment icon at the top of the screen and select the record video option. Once that’s done, the app will open a tool that lets you trim the video, with another icon at the top right Clicking that icon then converts the video into a GIF. Unfortunately, six seconds is the maximum length a video can be when converting to a GIF, but the feature also works on videos in your gallery.

According to Android Police, , the app is not actually creating a GIF, but the video is instead converted to and transmitted as an mp4 video with no sound that auto plays in chat.
