The vivo X5 Max was launched in India on Monday, at an official event in New Delhi. Currently India's slimmest smartphone, measuring in at 4.75mm thick, the device boasts Hi-Fi sound technology, with the phone aimed at India's youth market.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa core processor, with an Adreno 405 GPU, powers the phone, with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage space. A 5.5 inch 1080p super AMOLED screen coupled with a 13MP F2.0 rear cam and a 5MP wide angle lens front cam performed well enough in low light settings at the venue, but we'll make sure to test this further in future. An interesting feature is the switchable dual sim slot. You can opt to either use a micro sim and a nano sim side by side, or switch out the nano sim with a micro SD card. Also of note is vivo's own Funtouch OS 2.0 interface. A modded version of Android 4.4, it provides various smart wake features, like writing a 'W' on the sleep screen to open WhatsApp, air gesture controls, and also feautures a mini screen mode for one-handed use. And just because this phone is slim , doesn't mean the've left out the 3.5mm audio jack.

Now, the phone does have a couple of drawbacks. Firstly, the X5 Max is fitted with a paltry 2000mAH battery. It seems like far too little at this point, but hopefully vivo's customization of the OS does enough to negate this fact. Another problem would be the price. vivo has priced the X5 Max at Rs 32,890, a cool Rs 10,000 over one of its major competitors, the OnePlus One. But, as one of vivo's officials mentioned at the launch event, there might be a nice surprise in store where the price is concerned. Here's keeping our fingers crossed.
