When Pokemon Go was first launched, the US was one of the first countries to receive the app. Naturally, that’s also where the explosion of Pokemania initiated, spreading rapidly to the rest of world as we heard about how awesome it i3 (or how terrible, depending on your preference). Now, the US also seems to be the first to provide us with a potential candidate for the title of Pokemon Go master.

According to Business Insider, Brooklyn-based Nick Johnson is the first person in the world to capture every Pokemon available to him, His Reddit thread shows a screenshot from the game, with a Pokedex that lists a whopping 142 Pokemon, both seen and caught, from a total of 151.

So he’s not exactly “caught them all” right? Well, in a way Johnson has. Let’s break it down.

The way it stands, only the 151 “Generation I” Pokemon are in the smartphone game right now. The series itself has been around for years, so the real number of Pokemon has since gone up to 721, and that’s not even taking into account the ones we’ll see in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, due out soon.

Of those 151, six are likely not implemented in Pokemon Go yet, though they’re present in the game’s code. Those are the three Legendary Bird Pokemon - Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos - the infamous psychic powerhouses Mew and his clone Mewtw/, and the adorable amorphous blob Ditto.

In addition to that, experienced players believe some Pokemon are region locked, or at least so rare in other countries as to be almost impossible to find there. For the US, the three missing Pokemon are Mr Mime (exclusive to Europe), Kangaskhan (exclusive to Australia and New Zealand), and Farfetch’d (exclusive to Asia). If those facts are correct (and we believe they are) Johnson has successfully captured every species of Pokemon currently in the United States.

According to the report, Johnson says the achievement took long hours of walking and searching everyday after work, sometimes for eight hours at a time. In fact, his iPhone’s Health app shows he’s walked an average of 8 miles a day, everyday, for two weeks. But a paltry 142 is not enough, Johnson says he just has to catch every single one. In fact, he’s reportedly currently speaking with travel websites, to hopefully sponsor his trips arou.d the world to catch his elusive final three.

On a side note, why is Ditto so hard to find when it’s not even that powerful in the game? One very popular, but never confirmed, fan theory is that Ditto is a byproduct of a failed cloning of Mew, before scientists managed to get it right with Mewtwo.
